The M16L Long-Thread Cable Gland is a heavier-duty, one-size-fits-most cable gland for pixel controller builds, remote receivers, weatherproof enclosures, and outdoor electronics projects. With a 5–10mm cable range, M16 x 1.5 metric thread, and a 15mm long threaded body, it covers the most common cable sizes used in typical controller builds while providing better thread engagement than many small PG-style glands.
Available individually or in controller-friendly 8-pack and 16-pack quantities.
If you are tired of tiny gland nuts that barely catch the threads, strip out, or pop off while tightening, this M16L gland is a practical upgrade. It features a stronger body, thicker locknut, larger sealing nut, longer internal seal, and more robust clamping fingers for a more secure installation.
Why M16L?
PG7, PG9, and PG11 cable glands are commonly used in pixel lighting builds, but they are not always ideal for thicker plastic enclosures. Smaller PG-style glands often have short threaded bodies and thin locknuts that can be easy to strip, especially when the nut barely catches the threads. PG11 glands offer more cable room, but typically require a larger mounting hole.
The M16L long-thread gland bridges that gap. It fits most round cable jackets from 5–10mm, uses a smaller mounting hole than PG11, and provides longer thread engagement for thicker plastic enclosures.
One Size Fits Most Pixel Controller Cables
The 5–10mm cable range covers the typical real-world cable sizes used in controller, receiver, and enclosure builds:
- xConnect-style pigtail cable: about 6.5mm OD for common 3x0.75mm² cable
- 16/3 outdoor power cord: commonly around 8.5mm OD
- 14/3 outdoor SJTW power cord: approximately 9.25mm OD
This makes the M16L a practical “one size fits most” option for the typical range of cables entering a pixel controller — from xConnect-style pigtails up to many 14/3 power cords.
Built for Thicker Enclosures
The 15mm long threaded body provides better thread engagement than many smaller PG-style glands and works well with panel thicknesses up to approximately 1/4 inch.
This is especially useful for thicker-wall plastic enclosures, plastic ammo cans, and heavy-duty protective cases such as Apache-style or Pelican-style hard cases.
Smaller Mounting Hole Than PG11
Compared to many PG11 glands, the M16L provides a similar usable cable range while requiring a smaller mounting hole. A smaller hole leaves more wall material around the gland opening, which helps maintain enclosure strength when drilling into plastic boxes or protective cases.
- M16L mounting hole: approximately 16–16.5mm
- Typical PG11 mounting hole: approximately 19–19.5mm
M16L vs PG7, PG9, and PG11
| Gland Size | Typical Use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PG7 | Small pigtails | Compact, but often has a short threaded body and very thin locknut. Can be easy to strip or pop off in thicker enclosures. |
| PG9 | xConnect-style pigtails | A better visual fit for small pigtails than PG7, but still less versatile for larger cables. |
| PG11 | Larger pigtails and small power cords | Similar cable capacity to M16L, but usually requires a larger mounting hole. |
| M16L | Pixel controller and enclosure builds | 5–10mm cable range, long-thread design, thicker locknut, stronger body, and smaller mounting hole than PG11. |

- Outdoor electronics projects
- Plastic ammo cans
- Apache-style and Pelican-style protective cases
- Weatherproof DIY enclosures
Installation Notes
- Use with one round cable per gland.
- Measure your cable outside diameter before installation.
- Cables larger than 10mm OD should use a larger gland.
- Not intended for flat cable, loose individual wires, or multiple cables through one gland.
- Install snugly with normal care. Nylon fittings should be secure, but not over-tightened.
Bottom line: the M16L long-thread gland is a stronger, more versatile alternative to keeping separate PG7, PG9, and PG11 glands on hand. It may look slightly larger on small pigtails, but it offers better thread engagement, a stronger locknut, broader cable compatibility, and a cleaner install in thicker enclosures.
